Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is a large nerve fiber. It begins in the lower back and runs through the buttock and down the lower limb.  It is the longest and widest single nerve in the human body. Sciatica is one of the most common forms of pain caused by compression of the spinal nerves in the lower back, and the leg pain is usually much worse than the back pain.

Sciatica is a symptom, not a disorder. The radiating pain of sciatica signals another problem involving the nerve, such as a herniated disk.
